Appointments
How do I make an appointment?
Call our office at (440) 808-1212 or request an appointment using our online form. Please be prepared to provide your full name, Social Security number, and date of birth so our schedulers can assist you.
When should I arrive for my appointment?
New patients should arrive 15 minutes early to complete registration. You may also download and complete patient forms beforehand to save time. For procedures, please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled time.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring your insurance card, driver’s license, co-payment, and any test results or imaging relevant to your care. These records may also be forwarded from another provider.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
If you cannot keep your appointment, please call (440) 808-1212 as soon as possible. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a cancellation fee.
Prescriptions
How do I get my prescription filled?
Contact your pharmacy first. If no refills remain, call our office or request a refill through the patient portal. If you have not been seen in over a year, an appointment may be required. Insurance-related pre-authorizations may take up to one week.
Why are annual visits required for refills?
A yearly visit allows your physician or advanced practitioner to re-evaluate your health and determine whether your medication is still appropriate or if adjustments are needed.
Billing
Do you bill my insurance?
Yes. Claims are sent to your insurance company within a few days of your visit.
How much will I owe?
Your responsibility is determined after insurance payment is processed. Contact your insurance company for details about your benefits.
Why do I need a referral?
Some insurance plans require referrals for specialist visits or diagnostic testing. Check with your insurance provider for their requirements.
Why did I receive three separate bills for my procedure?
Three groups are involved in endoscopy care:
- North Shore Gastroenterology, Inc. – the physician and any pathology services
- North Shore Anesthesia – anesthesia services
- North Shore Endoscopy Center – facility fee
Test Results
How long does it take to get my lab results?
Most results are available within 10–14 days, after which your physician will review them and follow up as needed.
Hours of Service
What if I need a physician after hours?
A physician is on call 24 hours a day. Call our office, and the answering service will contact the provider on call.
What if it’s an emergency?
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Procedures
How long does the procedure take?
Allow 1.5 hours for a colonoscopy or upper endoscopy (EGD). If both procedures are performed, expect about 2 hours. Capsule endoscopy requires two visits of approximately 30 minutes each.
Why can’t I take a taxi home after my procedure?
Due to sedation, patients must be accompanied by a responsible adult after an endoscopy. Taxi drivers cannot ensure safe supervision once you arrive home.
Who can help with prep questions?
Your physician’s assistant or medical assistant can answer any questions about preparation. Refer to your prep instructions or call the office for assistance.
Patient Portal
How do I access the patient portal?
Call our office and request access from your physician’s secretary. You will receive an email with instructions and an access code. The portal allows you to request appointments, review results, update health information, and request prescription refills. If you already have login details, you may sign in at any time.
